    Hi,
looking for some advice, looking at upgrading my rifle and was looking at a secondhand rifle. Crown looks very clean and fresh no pitting but I checked the moderator and it appears to have a couple of dings from bullets clipping. Anyone got any advice if this is something to be worried about or an easy fix/solution ?
    Thanks,

Thanks, do you know what usually causes this ? I had it happen to me once when I was out setting my own rifle and found it was because the mod had become loose after a few shots.

Could be loose mod, poorly assembled mod or worse case it was not threaded correctly and threads are not in line with the bore of the barrel.

Some lads dial in the outside of the barrel and thread it. this is an awful way, you need to clock the inside of the bore then thread using that as a reference. Reason is most barrels are hammer forged and outside are perfectly round or run thru with inside of the bore.

Personally I'd walk away from the rifle, but if you are still considering it have a look at the threads and ensure they aren't damaged from the repeated strikes, and if possible put on another silencer(not the damaged one) and check to see if you can see clear lines down the top, bottom, left and right sides of the barrel and suppressor endcap.

It will let you tell if it is an issue with the old silencer or the threading on the rifle.

But as I said I'd leave it be, not worth the potential for future issues.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

Is the silencer an over barrel or end of barrel model? If it is an over barrel with baffle strikes, then it is more than likely the threading job is off.If it is an end of barrel model then it could be two things.Threading is off or the can worked itself lose and got some strikes. Can happen and has happened to me with an end of barrel model.

So two options, walk away,[proably the smarter,]or unless this is going dirt cheap.Get it professionaly re threaded by someone who knows what they are doing .This might meaning shortening the barrel abit and starting from fresh and re alinging the front post.Hence getting it for as cheap as possible.

one last item, if moderator was taken apart make sure its rebuilt correctly. I saw one where the owner put moderator back together cock wise and only spotted it when as threaded on there was a small wibble wobble
