Aer Lingus seat selection

I will be travelling from Shannon to cdg in a couple of months with aer Lingus, I will be travelling with my children (2&4) and others in the group. We booked our flights as a group ( I realise this is a mistake now) and I can’t pay for seats for myself and children to be sat together unless I pay for everyone in the group to has assigned seats. No one else cares where they are sat so they don’t want to pay for seating, I have spoke with aer Lingus they won’t allow me to book seats just for 3 people in the group. I am anxious about not being sat with my children but cannot afford to pay for everyone in our groups seats on the flights.
how likely is it that I will be sat with my children? When does check in open to select seats without charge before flight?

If you haven’t paid for the seats when booking. You can pick your seats 48hrs before departure.

Kids of that age have to have an adult with them, you don't need to worry.
