I'm saddened to be writing this in light of the interaction that led to new rules being implemented in CA only a few short months ago, namely with the intent of reducing the need for moderator action on the forum.

A number of us discussed this at length at the time and agreed that a scale of bans for serious infractions should be introduced with the hope that the forum would become more self regulated.

What has actually transpired is an increase in moderation, particularly in bans handed out for increasingly baffling reasons.

Bans are an agreeable feature when they're given in reasonable situations. We're not seeing that, it's also notable that some poor behaviour goes completely unpunished.

What type of community are we trying to create with this approach exactly?

I've begun posting less frequently over the last few months because of this as have other regular users, bans can arise from seemingly innocuous posts, it's discouraging engagement with the forum, some threads on the front page have their latest posts dating back a number of days.

This is the busiest forum on the site and it feels like people are being discouraged from participating in it. Is that the intent?

We're not doing this again. Change your posting habits and you will get moderated less, it's as simple as that.

I don't know where you got the idea the rules were to reduce moderation, they were to reduce the NEED for moderation by getting problematic posters banned quicker and off the forum.

    Thread closed.
