I'i have an appointment in a couple of weeks with Optilase to find out if I'm suitable for lens replacement surgery. I'll like to here from anyone who's had this procedure. I'd like to know the good, the bad and the general outcome. What lens were used. Where you given a choice etc. Recovery time, after care.

I'm open to hearing about different places too . The Mater eye clinic etc..

I'm fairly active and I've found glasses to be inconvenient most of the time. And I'm now in a position to avail of this surgery.

If you'd like to pm me directly or reply to this post, I'd appreciate it.

I'm in the same boat. Strongly considering lens replacement after having laser eye surgery 6 years ago which gave me 1 good eye and 1 that has reverted to how it was prior to the surgery.

Also interested in recommendations for places.

I had this procedure 8 months ago. Lens replacement in both eyes. I went to Optilase. I'm 61 years old and their assessment was that my eyesight was too bad for the "normal" laser eye surgery. Procedure went perfectly and results better than I could have imagined. I occasionally need glasses for reading - which they did say might happen - but for everything else I have pretty much perfect eyesight. Before the surgery I was totally dependent on glasses or contact lenses since the age of 11. The only problem I had with Optilase was customer service - I had dreadful trouble trying to get them to return phone calls and answer basic questions before the surgery. I did mention this on the day of the surgery. Cost was €8,500 of which I got 1600 back in tax. I had each eye done separately. Immediately after the surgery had an eye patch to wear for 24 hours, back on my feet the next day, perfect vision from the eye within 3 days.

Thanks Everlong1. That seems like a good price. I was quoted £4200 per eye in a Belfast eye clinic a year ago. And great to hear you're so pleased with the results

I went ahead with Optilase for the surgery in early April. Customer services wise, they need to improve drastically. The people themselves are nice and knowledgeable. But trying to get in contact with somebody from Ireland is near impossible unless they are reaching out to you. But you do receive an Irish number to call if you have any issues after surgery.

Surgery went without a hitch, roughly 15 minutes per eye. I've now had the 24hr check up, 1st week check up and monthly check up. I had a toric lens in my right eye due to an astigmatism and a standard multifocal lens in my left eye. I had the Johnson and Johnson multifocal Pure See lens. They are one of the latest lens on the market. And I've had no halo effect at all. For me, my left eye is not as sharp as it should have been. Most likely down to residual refractive error, which can happen after Iol surgery. This has been confirmed at my monthly appointment. My next check up is in mid July. And if it remains the same they will provide Lasik on the left eye to sharpen it's focus. And this will be a lifetime fix. This is being provided FOC as part of their support. I can see the laptop font without issue and as far into the distance with perfect focus. But my mobile is a little fuzzy, but I can read it. This wont be an issue after they perform Lasik.

Overall I'm happy with their support post surgery. And I would recommend them.

My surgery cost me €7,995 and that included a €500 discount for having the surgery within a month of the initial consultation.
