Finding information on non-registered building

My brother in law was born in the UK, and his father was Irish who emigrated sometime in the 50's. He's been tracing his family in Ireland and discovered his father was born to a level crossing keeper on the now long defunct Dungarvan - Cappoquin line. The crossing keeper's cottage still exists to this day, but is in a really bad state and is being slowly left to crumble, so they tried to find out who owned it. There are houses either side of it, but they've had no luck contacting any of the the neighbours, despite a recent visit. On the Land Registry website it shows no property boundaries and if you click on the building it says it is not registered with them and that information might be found on the "Registry of Deeds".

So, does anyone know what this Registry of Deeds is and how it might be queried, or any other information that might lead to finding out who owns it?

Would it have been originally owned by the Railway? Office of Public Works might have records/maps showing state ownership. When did the railway close? would anyone local remember if properties were sold off perhaps local estate agent or solicitor?

Unregistered would suggest it's still in CIÉ ownership. They didn't sell off the Mallow-Waterford line as consistently as some others, it still operated for freight to Dungarvan til the late 80s for instance.

IRRS may be able to advise in either case. Actually, Ancestry may have some records of his service on the collections they've got from the IRRS but they're just personnel records.

Thanks guys. They've already been in contact with the IRRS in the past, and have all the info about his service, and his wife's who took over when he died. They're notoriously difficult to contact but it might be worth trying to ask them. It was certainly owned by the railway, so it's possible that it's still in their ownership. It's a shame as it's just being left to rot.

CIÉ Group Property would know if its still owned by them, if they ever reply. They barely maintain property beside active railways…
