Using back boiler on its own

    Boiler is busted.

However fireplace has a back boiler, with an independent pump. Not used often. I'm thinking of checking the pump is working, lighting a small fire and see if any heat comes into the bottom nearest radiators.

    Any thoughts...

I decided this was a bad idea. I've gone a different way with it.

It not my house someone in the family.

I checked the pump, didn't trust it. Didn't trust the information I was given either.

    Wiser to walk away.

back boilers are fine, light a small fire, turn down the thermostat and see if the pump is activated, a small fire in an unblocked chimney will do no harm.
