Emergency payment such as SA

Can I get supplementary payment without a medical report? I still have some savings so it is not really an emergency, yet! But will be soon. They said I needed a medical report from a GP to get supplementary allowance, but the GPs I tried aren't taking new applicants/are full. Surely when I run out of rent money or savings they will just give me a payment, even if I still haven't a GP?

Are you waiting on a disability/invalidity decision? Or another payment? Supplementary Welfare Allowance is for people waiting on a welfare decision and/or on very low income. The form doesn't have a medical section.

Hi, thanks and sorry for my late reply. I haven't applied for Disability Allowance as they said I needed a GP's medical report 1st, prob to see that it is genuine. Can I receive SWA for say 3 months until I get Disability Allowance, and can it be backdated as I haven't claimed anything from the state for several months while unemployed etc?

You can get SWA while waiting for DA, but you have to have applied for it. Do you have any consultant letters you could get to apply if you can't access a GP? Actually either way, the Community Welfare Officer is where you should go. Explain you're trying to access a GP and bring proof (list of practices you've tried). They are best equipped to help you. They may or may not backdate, but just bring as much info into your situation as possible.

I'm guessing you don't have a medical card?

I don't have a medical card, but most GP's won't accept medical card people as new customers, only private ones. That is helpful anyhow, yes I could bring explain to a Com'y Welfare Officer that I've tried GPs and couldn't find a place. Ty
