Where can I buy the cheapest wines/spirits?

I'm currently living off my savings and so I'm on a tight budget but still want to enjoy the odd drink. My friend suggested that I go up to Northern Ireland for cheaper alcohol but I'm not sure that I would be saving given the cost of taking the train to Belfast.

Aldi or Lidl, then. Legally, a bottle of 40% ABV spirits can't be sold for less than about €22 and a bottle of 12.5% ABV wine for under €7.50. Lidl and Aldi will have options at around these marks.

MUP has put a limit on how cheap a gram of alcohol can be. If you shop around and use a calculator you can buy various booze priced exactly at this lower limit. Buying exactly at the minimum is as good as you can hope to do.

In Northern Ireland you can go maybe 4-5 euro below MUP on some spirits. Like store-brand whiskey or vodka, or cheap stuff like Famous Grouse. With a big suitcase you could carry enough on a train to make the trip worthwhile. Whether you would want to drink that stuff is another matter… 😄

That's a 40% whiskey (minimum price ROI €22.09) and a 37.5% vodka (min price ROI €20.71). I'll let you do the conversion and savings yourself

unlike beers, there's always very good deals on decent wines and spirits - you'd be better off spending 2-5 euro more and get a quality drink
