I bought a laptop and paid for an extended warranty on it 18 months ago. Since Christmas the laptop has had an attempted repair carried out for the same issue. Today I was notified that the laptop is been written off and the insurance company is sending store vouchers to the store I purchased it. I've spoken to the ccpa on this but would like if someone had a similar experience and how it was resolved.

I've 2 questions. 1: If I don't want a replacement or to deal with the store in question am I entitled to a refund and what happens to the money I paid for the extended warranty. 2: If I go with the same store is the warranty still in effect and if so would it be from the date of receiving the replacement laptop.

    Tia for any replies

As you seem to be relying on the extended warranty rather than any consumer rights, then it will depend on what is written in the warranty. Some retailers sell extended warranties linked to their own store while other are more generic.

In the first case, see what is written in the warranty. If it is being provided by a 'third party', i.e. not the retailer itself, then make contact with them and explain what your preferences are. But if the warranty provides for vouchers for a specific retailer only then you will have a battle trying to get anything else from them.
