I have a leaking strap boss. Top one in these pics. The pipe only fits in about 5mm and no further .Was coupled from 36mm to what I think is 40mm years ago. Pipe is not solvent welded into boss connector . Pipe does not sit very tight into the boss Connector . Do I need a bigger pipe than 40mm .? Will I just lash solvent weld on it ? Or use rubber based sealant ? I’m just concerned that the boss is not actually 40mm or the pipe is not 40 mm because

it would fit tighter if that was the case , then solvent would’ve been used .

The best job is to replace the boss, cut back the pipe, fit a coupler and install a new piece of pipe the correct length to fit firmly into the boss.

There are two pipe sizes, 32mm & 40mm, and you need a boss to suit.

In this case it looks like the pipe is 32mm, the installer only had a 40mm boss, so he used a 40mm coupler with a reducer on one side. It would have been fine if he hadn’t left it so short.

If you want a quick fix Tek 7 in a new piece of 40mm pipe into the boss and join it to the 32mm pipe.

If i was stuck and didn't have solvent welt, i would cut back the coupler on the 32mm pipe and slide the 40mm pipe over the top, then tek 7 in the 40mm pipe into the boss and tek7 the ID of the 40mm pipe over the OD of the 32mm pipe.

You only need a small bit of 40mm pipe, you should be able to get that out of a skip.

Hiya and thx for the replies.

yes the Pipe was coupled up from 36mm up to 40 mm to fit the boss strap ( so I assume the boss strap is 40mm )

There is enough length in the current piece of 40mm pipe to fit into the boss but it doesn't sit in tight, it never has.

See pic, red line is how far the pipe fits into the boss strap, no further.

The boss looks 40mm but the 40mm piece of pipe only fits in about 5mm until it hits a blue seal ?

Is that what's supposed to happen ? The 40mm, or what I think is 40mm, pipe only goes slightly inside boss strap.

When you say 40mm pipe is that marked as 43mm on the pipe itself ?

I have bits of pipe marked 43 OD, that also only fits 5mm into the Boss strap.

Should 40mm pipe fit in tight past the 5mm blue seal ?

When you say tek 7 do you mean the tek 7 rubber sealant ?

I could solvent weld the current piece to the boss strap but the fit isn't tight enough or I could use sealant.

    thx
