Annual Leave Question

    My present company's stance is that the AL year runs from April 1st to March 31st, but they state that leave not taken can't be carried over. This left me a bit surprised that you apparently can't carry leave over. So I just want to be sure that I get the right amount of days before March ends this year. I think I did also hear something about how staff have 15 month window to take AL according to the Irish statute?

    The contract also reads that 5-day rosters will receive 20 days AL and 4-day roster will receive 16 days. So in my case I do an 8 week rotation, with 3 of those weeks being 4 day weeks, and the other five being 5 day weeks. Should I expect this to be taken into account when calculating my annual leave, leaving me with a figure between 16 and 18 days? perhaps roughly 19 days!

    I'd also like to ask about that hypothetical situation where an employee's AL amount doesn't correspond with the 8%. As in 8% of their work days might amount 3.4 days AL. What would the employer typically do in that situation? Would they just round that down to 3 days?

    Usually what they would do is simply count the hours instead of days off. Hence if you take a day off on a 4 day week it would be 10h off compared to 8h taking a day off on a 5 day week out of your annual leave allowance of 160h. Works out the same in the end but accounts for the difference in working day lengths.
