I know asking what could be wrong here is like asking who actually shot JFK, it could be any amount of things but I won’t know until I get the computer connected.

The message doesn’t appear immediately, it’s only when I get to about third gear the message appears, the car sometimes limits at 80km/h and won’t push on no matter how much acceleration. The message does disappear after a while of driving tho.

Any help massively appreciated as to what could be the problem. Thanks :)

I'd say it's some kind of engine malfunction.

Needs a code scan. It can be any one of a number of things

Does it go into limp mode if you accelerate hard? Does the warning disappear after a while or driving, or when you switch off the car? I saw an "engine malfunction" before in a MK2 Focus, when you accelerated hard it would go into limp mode, switch off and on the engine it would go and appear again under similar conditions. Based on the fault code and searching online, the issue in that case turned out to be the turbo boost solenoid value, part was about €30-40 at the time. A few hoses connect onto it - check the hoses they can split underneath and you may not notice. But you really need to scan it first and see what codes you get, engine malfunction could probably be many different things.
