I've been given a ring wired doorbell. I presume it's version 1 ìas it's completely black. It has a single security torx on the bottom.

Ive an existing doorbell, not chime. At the push button I've 15v ac.

Can I just attach the ring to the 2 wires at the pushbutton or do I need to do something at the bell side?

    Do I need a resistor?

You need to buy a Ring Chime.

Your internal bell wont work and / or use your alexa .

Thanks but I don't think that's necessary. I'll see what others advise.

I have the Ring Video Doorbell 2. I just connected it to the two wires from my existing doorbell chime and it worked fine. I get about 15 Volts AC at the doorbell. I didn't need the resistor.

However, it worked flawlessly for about 5 years but now it only stays connected for about week and then it croaks. Not sure why as nothing has changed. It could be the internal battery is on its way out. There are better doorbells out there now, so I won't be using Ring again.

Thanks. I believe I can connect directly but waiting on confirmation here.

I've now got it working by just a direct replacement with push button.

I think I will link the bell connections (at the bell) because right now the ring bell is being powered (unnecessarily) through the bell solenoid windings.

    Been working 1 week now.

I disconnected and seperated the wires at the push button (after checking voltage for safety) I should have isolated it at the CU, but it wasn't labeled and i didn't want to to go through the breakers. .

I then put the wires at the bell into the same terminal (essentially joining them). I then checked for AC voltage at the push button side. It was 16vac. I extended the wires to give a better position for the Ring.

I separated the wires at the bell. Connected them to the back of the Ring, making sure no cross connection between the two. Reconnected at the bell. That was it. Hope this helps others.
