Chromebook, update, restart, log in??

Hi all ok… so….. a few months back I lost all my local files from my Chromebook as I had forgotten my previous log in password so it was all just wiped. I accepted my losses, set it up again with new password and a numerical password also. I wrote the password down and put it in a safe place. That safe place was inside the pages of a book which would have remained safe had someone not chucked said book away.

So my question is this - there's been a security update ready to install for quite a while but I've been afraid to restart (or even power down completely). If I install this update and restart it, will I be able to log back in with full access using only the numerical code I set up and NOT the password?

Thank you for your time and your help,

    Rich.
