    Hi,

I have an old Kona hardtail that i want to upgrade the parts on.
frame and fork are good. Headset, bars, stem, saddle and Seatpost are grand.

looking at replacing wheels (26inch) and drivetrain. Brakes are ok but I’d replace them also if i got a full groupset.

Currently running 3x9. Switch to 1x10 would be great.
    anything out there?

i upgraded a Gary fisher full sus recently from 3*9 to 1*10 using a cheapo 30t narrow wide front ring from amazon fitted to the existing crankset and a deore cassette, shifter and derailleur from bike parts.de. Cheapest way i could get it done. the wheels were fine(if a bit heavy) so stuck with them. Almost done - just waiting on the shifter to arrive as i foolishly though all shimano 10 speed were the same - not so as it happens! The tiagra (or similar ) one i had from a 2*10 flat bar road set up defo doesn't work with the deore 1*10.

Also got a dropper for it while I was at it. My 14 yo daughter will be taking it for a spin next weekend if the shifter arrives in time.

Tidy. What size cassette did you use?

    What was the cost altogether?

    My wheels are likewise.

Sunrace do a great 11-42 or 46 10 speed cassette.

Wider range is better but you might need a goat link for the 10spd mech.

It is disc or rim brakes?

MTB and road 10 speed are very different and rarely mix and match for things like cable pull. Try to get a 10 speed mech with a clutch if you can (should be able to).

I did this 10-15 years ago and it's well worth 1x and dropper post.

Shimano deore 11-46 cassette and chain 10 speed - €53.74

    Shimano deore rd m5120 - 10/11 speed clutch derailleur - €18.59

    Shimano Deore sl-m6000 10 speed shifter - €10.33

all from bike-discount.de - delivery times are a lot slower than some other places - up to two weeks, but the prices seemed to be the best.

Then narrow wide 30T chain ring for the existing crank set from amazon - £14.33 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B078F1CKZY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

    Thanks for the info.
I managed to get an XT clutch RD and shifter and a Deore 11-42 10-speed cassette in good used condition. Also a new Deore chain.

    And a narrow-wide 36T chainring.
Hoping it goes onto the stock FSA cranks.

They’re both 4-bolt, 110BCD so I reckon they should be grand..

The bike has hydraulic disc brakes, qr skewers.
Brakes are ok but should be fine if I renew the pads and discs and bleed them
