    Hi,

I wonder if somebody can advise me in the following issue. Working in the civil service for nearly 2 years. I need to have a surgery done but not sure how much time I need to take off. I know that increment can be affected by your sick leave. I was thinking to take only a week off certified sick leave and then the rest from my annual leave? Could I do that?

No. You need to be certified by your doctor as fit to return to work if you want to take annual leave immediately after sick leave.

Usually, one-off issues like surgery or a fracture are disregarded, it's chronic sickness absence that they are concerned about.

Take whatever time off your doctor advises and don't worry about it. If there is any gyp about your increment talk to your union rep - but there shouldn't be.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.
