House rewire

I’m after buying a 1960s house which has original wiring with the screw in fuses.

The first thing on my list to do is a full rewire.

What are the regulations these days. Can I do the first fix and get a registered sparks to do the second fix and sign off obviously when the time comes I’d meet the sparks and come to an agreement before i start

Could I go as far as terminating at sockets etc and let the sparks look after the consumer Unit and testing

I’m an electrical engineer with a state owned Utility. Spent years pulling cables in previous jobs.

You would have some knowledge so ,

Best thing you could do is , chat to a few contractors and see would they let you help , might reduce the cost ,

I’m a contractor myself and have do a few jobs that way ,

Cheers. I do understand where you are coming from. I’ve seen some bad installations from people who shouldn’t have been doing it.

I'm in a similar position to the OP, 1960's house with what looks like a somewhat partial rewire done about 20 years ago (roughly) as some circuits have cable with current colour codes and some with the older black/red. Hoping to have it rewired and potentially doing first fix (I'm a 3rd year apprentice) and someone RECI registered do 2nd fix.

My question is the location of the meter now, it is under a stairs with the the DB on the wall outside it ( I assume this was moved when work was done some years ago). We want to move them as want to put a bathroom under the stairs. What would be the best way to approach this ? Should I be contacting ESB first to get meter moved ? Thanks

you will need a certificate to move meter , put in a meter box outside and a duct to esb pole ,

Work around that until your ready to certify the second fix
