Air Compressor - Capacitor or Seized - How to tell?

    Morning All,

Parkside PKO400 50Lt garage air compressor farted and died tonight.

Motor is humming and then trips plug fuse.

My v. limited experience says there's either an issue with the starter capacitor or the motor is mechanically seized. Would that be right?

Should the cooling fan spin freely without power? It doesn't at the moment. Does that indicate motor is seized or might it just be that way by design?

Seems easy enough to change the capacitor - is that worth trying?

    Any advice welcome.

    Ta much

    Paul

I presume you're referring to the plug-top fuse here. As far as I know starter cap issues on pumps don't cause the fuse to trip.

I'd have a feeling that the fan should be able to rotate freely too… so perhaps that's pointing to a seized motor…

Probably piston heads. Also possible they are airlocked if there's a good blockage. (or even waterlocked)

Either way take off the cylinder heads and have a gander, will tell you straight what kind of state the machins is in.
