Garage Door - Fix or replace

This isn't really DIY as I have no plan to try do this work myself, but I wasn't sure where else to post this. My garage door broke during the recent storm - one side of blew in about a foot or so.

It is a pretty old door and I'm not sure if it's fixable. Should I try get it fixed, or is a new door the way to go? It's around 3.65m wide.

Take the opportunity to modernise, thats a very old style door, theres not even that many companies bfixing them any more. Get an electric roller shutter which won't have any of those springs and won't need space inside your garage to open into.

yeah, fair enough. Any idea of cost? I did a quick check on Garolla.ie (first result on Google) and they say around 2500. Not sure if many are doing them locally.

Buy a modern electric roller shutter is the way way to go, as per the above post. I used C&S shutters and it was done in about 2 hrs and about €1200 at the time ( c. 2015).

Based in Dublin here interested to see any quotes you get as I need to do the same for a garage door in my mams house. The old door and surround has seen better days, so it looks like I will be trying to get an electric door as well.

Hi Def_IRL just wondering if you have had to get any maintenance done on the door since it was installed in 2015. I presume its mains fed for power with maybe a battery backup.

I presume the box will be inside the garage, as will the up down keyed switch.

Got one recently and Garda have told all installers to fit key switches inside and if the box is outside, not to cut the access hole for the crank handle that can be used to open them manually as u know who have them on heavy duty cordless drills

Garolla.ie have a calculator. They reckon around 2500 for my door, which is on the large side of things. I'll let you know what the local person says, he's due to send me a few quotes this evening.

Cheers let us know if it's ballpark around the same as Garolla door.

I am going to get a quote from the C&S shutters as well as I know some of the ones they have fitted locally from there insta site.

What would be the most secure type to go for? The roller type means you have no natural light coming in a window.. Would the 'up and over' type be more or less secure?

A fair bit less - 2100. He was saying it's a fairly high spec door and for the width of door I need that he wouldn't recommend anything else.

Cheers waiting on C&S shutters to call me about a visit to price the door.

So ballpark is going to be from €2100 up to €2500 for a door.

That's a 3.9 meter door and pretty high spec is that width needs to be sturdy.

Did you use the Garola calculator for your own specifications?
