Hi, am hoping to start in LSAD, clare st in Sept and am looking at student accommodation nearby. Can anyone advise on whether it'd be safe at night to walk from city campus on Edward st to LSAD on clare St? I know grove island apts are closer but have to keep my options open. Don't know limerick at all and wondering if that area of the city would be relatively safe or a no go? (I mean generally up to say 10/11pm?) Tia for any advice/info on the area

Like anywhere I’d be cautious walking anywhere alone and after dark. Some areas around the art college and city campus arent the best but I wouldn’t consider them no go areas either.

The most direct route from Clare Street to Edward Street is a quieter part of town that I’d probably avoid late at night or after dark.

City campus is popular for Mary I students so just consider that too in case you find yourself feeling a bit isolated from LSAD students who mainly tend to live in Grove Island or at Parkview Hall on the Dublin Road.

Thanks for that @Poxyshamrock , I wasn't sure about Parkview hall as website is scant on booking details and alot of the units seem to be privately owned ..anyway tks for the info!

I lived in both as a student (years ago!) Grove Island was a much safer place to live. The walk from City Campus to LSAD is very long. At least if you were in GI, you'd have a chance of fellow students walking home at the same time. There was nobody from LSAD in CC when I lived there, all Mary I.

Thanks! yeah am hoping to get into Grove Island but since it's a lottery, I'm trying to cover all the bases! Do you know anything about Parkview hall?

I don't know anything about it, sorry! Grove Island wasn't a lottery system when I was there either. I do have to say, I moved to GI from Meath and knew absolutely nobody. I felt really safe and secure there and would feel happy having any of my kids there in the future. It was also so handy having Super Valu right beside you and the launderette downstairs. I hope you get a place there.

As a native of Limerick city and an LSAD graduate - I'll offer some advice.

Edward Street to the Clare St. campus is passing near hyde road, the peoples park, the train station… all places I would avoid at night myself - even as a 6'2" 40 odd year old male. LOL. And I have family living in Hyde Road.

Grove island would be ideal - so fingers crossed.

Parkview hall seems to be a mix of all sorts. I regularly meet a "phone fix" lad who lives there - Indian guy (I think) and the place looks a little rough n' ready. Though it is gated/private. Hard to know…

Maybe drop the college an e-mail, and ask for some advice. Who knows… they may know of someone looking to rent a room, etc. I'll say one thing - LSAD is a great college and I had 4 great years there. Best of luck with the hunt!

You would go near Hyde Road but wouldn't need to interact with it so should be fine. I would avoid though with all the scummy kids around.

The Park, station and also John's Square have junkies hanging around but I've never really seen them be a threat to anyone and are more an eyesore than anything.
