    Hi,

Going to crucible in May 2025.

Have been doing research online on best way of getting from Dublin to Sheffield.

    Seems there's multiple options

    Dublin → Liverpool/Leeds Bradford/Manchester → then train to Sheffield.

Any ideas on the best options?

Anyone on here who have been recently.

    TIA

If you are not in a hurry, stenaline do a sailrail ticket dublin to sheffield for about 50 euro each way.

If you get the morning ferry, connecting to multiple option trains, you get into Sheffield about 5pm.

Stena sells you one ticket that includes the train.

Thanks but would prefer to fly. Not a great traveller on water.

If you fly into manchester, you can get a train for as little at 14 quid return. I used some random dates.

The station is less than 10 min walk from The Crucible. Don't be tempted to hop in a taxi traffic can be bad. Other than that enjoy, I lived there for a few months in the late 2000's nice spot!

Thanks for that. Someone else said online best to book the train tickets of line before going too.

In my innocence, had assumed there was an airport in Sheffield.

    Anyway, we'll get there :-)

If you fly to Leeds Bradford, you have to get a bus to Leeds city centre (40 mins +, depending on traffic) before you get to the railway station.

Manchester airport has a train station on site

Been to the Crucible twice. Fly to Manchester and train from there

Train can get very expensive these days. Do well to get a cheap return, probably best to keep an eye on it.

Sheffield is all walkable, no need for a taxi in the city centre, I have found hotels have got well pricey in recent years too.

Fly to Manchester around 1hr 20 on the train or Birmingham think it’s about 15mins longer from there.

Sheffield is small enough and most of the hotels are only few minutes walk from the station. Heading over myself this year again. Great craic.

    I’ve been 4-5 times.

Always fly to Manchester and then train to Sheffield.

Pretty handy, book train tickets as far in advance as possible.

Crucible is class and Sheffield is a great city for food and nights out. We love it there.

    Hi

just about to book train times from Manchester to Sheffied.

Do I stick rigidly to the time booked or is it flexible just as long as we have the tickets booked.

I suppose you'd need to check the conditions on the ticket for peak/off peak for instance.

The line can be pretty busy even on Sundays as people go out around Greater Manchester and the Peak District.

Im going to the last two days of the qualifiers, fly in to leeds and train down, i dont think the qualifiers are in the crucible though

If you book a timed ticket usually called an advance ticket it will only work for the time on the ticket.

You can buy a anytime ticket, but these are stupidly priced. If you can get an off-peak or super off-peak you can take any train outside peak commuting times.
