Replacing slate roof tiles (or covering gap temporarily)

Thought i managed to get away with no damage from the storm last night when suddenly I heard a crash as a slate tile crashed off from my roof.

Thankfully it's the lower section of my roof so I can reach it easily, but considering if its something I can repair myself or temporarily cover?

The gap is about 3 inches.

You need to lift/raise the tile above the gap, slide the new tile into place and place the raised tile back into position and hopefully the raised tile hold the replaced tile in place. A temporary measure might be to use a piece of flat led and cut to the same size at a tile and fit it like I said for the tile.

Others here might have an easier solution.

agreed. Look-up the method on Youtube as it's easy once you get it, and the repair could be a temporary job just to get you the far side of the incoming storm on Sunday anyway. Don't use plastic anyway, it will work it's way loose very quickly.

Would gorilla tape get me a few days?

    It's actually only 1.5-2 inches

I think you have to start higher up than what you show in the photo and come down below that nail on the tile under the hole. As a temporary measure duct tape might do, start low down on the good tile and overlap to the tape from above until you cover the hole. You'll have to clean the tiles as the tape won't stick to the grit on the tile above the hole.
