New Low Pressure system - Watching development. - 26/1/2025 - 27/1/25

According to many weather models (ECMWF) , there is apparently a new Low Pressure system that is approaching UK & Ireland on Sunday, (26/1/25) and into Monday (27/1/25). Could this be a new storm?

Have we never had stormy weather in winter before? We have just come out of a long period of settled calm weather so a couple of storms are due, certainly not unique and can't be tied to climate change, global warming, the war in Ukraine, the Trump presidency, the Gaza war, two Dublin clubs winning all irelands, or any other nonsense

According to the ECMWF model, this Low Pressure system is expected to be a big one. The size is like from Ireland To Spain.

What have you started a thread for a storm that has not been named. You should leave this to the usual moderators and normal posters. You are only causing confusion.

Git very windy again in Dublin city centre. I suspect it's in advance of a shower which is due to pass over Dublin in the next few minutes

The current storm's eye is over Scotland. The new "storm" is currently deepening over the Atlantic Ocean.

Yeah, it is pretty windy, I'd say this is a more kind of a wind storm, more than a rain event.

But there are many signs that this will be a storm. The UKV, GFS models all show that top wind gusts of 176 km/h. Pressure of a record low of 950 hPa. A normal low pressure has a max low of 990, or 980, but this is 950. This "storm" is likely to be fueled by the jet stream, similar to what Eowyn had.

Often threads are started like this and renamed when the storm is named. Most Mods and Seasoned weather watchers are exhausted and/or have no power at the moment @Meteorite58 @WolfeEire did you get through ok?

No harm keeping an eye on the next possible storm due especially for those who maybe missing roof tiles etc.

Looking at met.ie forecast, its not going to be anything but a wintry storm. Fingers crossed.

I think I meant "Wind event" for Eowyn, but this new storm could be a mix of both: wind and rain!

Thanks.Good to know I have bad roof holes and damage so I reckon I need to get it repaired tomorrow before the heavy rain.

Probably more a deep low pressure, but can see isobars not that tight over Ireland,some blustery, windy weather currently showing up, some fronts might be quite wet and windy but probably not too severe at this stage. Currently probably just yellow warning levels for parts. The position of the low would keep the strongest winds S of Ireland but worth keeping an eye on track and it's development. Worth watching out for some thunderstorm development also.

Busguy, keep it up, in fact the whole of next week looks very wet and windy, which will be an issue due to structural and botanical weaking from last night.

Yeah, according to the ECMWF model, I can see snow and rain at first but then when it reaches near Spain, it has started to develop some lightning., further down the line. If the storm continues to track more North East, this could be one hell of a storm, possibly more deadly than the one we had today.

If you take a look at Met.ie, The Met Office in the UK started to issue some yellow wind warnings. Could this be a sign that the eye of the storm is heading for North Dublin?
