Tus Programme or Seetec? Or both at the same time?

    Hi, I’m new here.

I have been on JobSeeker Allowance for some time and currently, I have received two letters: one from Seetec saying that I have been selected for the 52-week employment service program and I have been given an appointment date. A week later I received a letter from Intreo Tus Program with an offer to apply for a position in the Tus program, which involves 19.5 hours/week for 12 months. And it’s involuntary. Aren't these programs - Seetec and Tus - contradicting each other? As far as I know, Seetec assumes that I am unemployed, gives me training and helps me find a job, while TUS removes me from the unemployment list and gives me an internship/volunteer. Has anyone had a similar situation? Do I have to take part in both programs? Is there a chance I can choose the program I prefer? Which program do you advise me to take if I can choose?

A little about me: I am an educated person with two degrees, I worked in the creative field: advertising agencies, marketing departments, and publishing houses, IT companies. I am ambitious, I learn a lot, and I take a lot of courses. I'm afraid that none of these programs will help me get a job in my field and that I probably won't gain valuable experience by doing them = they are a waste of time. I am currently looking for a job, but I am also taking another course related to my profession, increasing my chances of employment. I need a little more time before I'm ready to go back to work. Can anyone advise which program I should choose so as not to waste too much of my energy and time?

It's not that I'm trying to avoid it, but I've read that Seetec are bullies, and during the Tus program, it happens that your job is mowing lawns or washing toilets in a sports club, and I know full well that it won't help my career. I know well how to manage my career and how to develop it.

Also, could someone explain why people don't want to sign the PPP with Seetec? What happens if I sign it?

    Please help.

Lots of threads about both to read on this Forum. Seetac essentially run the Pathways to work jobs activation program & are simply appalling.

TUS & CE schemes essentially the same thing. Both offer 19.5 hrs a week employment placements. More preferable than dealing with Seetac who'll hound you weekly for 12 months & longer.

Your education, experience unfortunately irrelevant as Seetac won't help in anyway & TUS / CE scheme placement don't require any experience or indeed education.

The PPP essentially gives Seetac carte blanche to harras you & indeed employers even if you found a job yourself. There is no legal requirement to sign a PPP, so absolutely don't sign one.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

Thanks, Dempo1. I called welfare, and it seems I'm stuck with both Seetec and Tus Programme. Unfortunately, I can't choose which scheme I prefer. So, even if I do Tus Programme for 19.5 hours/week I'll still have to deal with Seetec.
Thanks for the advice, I won't be signing the PPP.

What is the position Tus are asking you to do, or do they have one in mind yet? There are admin and IT positions etc available through CE anyway, I don’t know about TUS. Some resource center could do with your skills, you could spent the 12 months designing leaflets or newsletters or something or teaching basic IT courses in the community. You could do train the trainer or something similar as your training while on the scheme. Don’t automatically write it off as being completely useless to you. Look into what’s available to you within a reasonable travelling distance.

The difference is age with Seetec they want you to work eventually fulltime so the age range is that of CE 18 -55. Tus go after the older people who are near retirement & ready to drop and they just squeeze the last few drops of life out of you. My pal is 64 & got a TUS letter she cant get an interview due to ageism which is rampant in ireland, so they want her to pick up litter after 40 years of tax paying it s a way of keeping the unemployed figures the same but its not the tax paying semi retirees who are unemployed moving people off lists makes the figures look better for the government. Its like they are still un employed but on these makey up BS lists to effectively allow the gov to spin.

you can refuse TUS as well if they offer you a degrading position also you can seek a self referral in other words find a volunteer position you like & get them to have you as a TUS person costs them nothing

A lot of this is just patently nonsense firstly if someone is over 62 and claims Jobseekers then they don't need to engage with the activation process, only exception is where someone is already engaging which means they've been on Jobseekers for a number of years already?

Secondly there are more roles available than just "picking up litter" - there's childcare service provider roles, IT, administrative roles. You don't find these unless you look for them though which your friend should be doing as part of the activation process. The same applies to CE schemes, loads of variety in these but if you don't ask then yep, you don't get as they go to the people actually seeking them.

My own wife just came off 18 months of a Tus scheme in our local community creche and found a full time job out of it so I am speaking from experience. She's a lot younger than 64 too!

I'm curious OP, how are you getting on? Did you make a choice on which of them to do?
