Training when working with young family?

    Hi all,

    When are you getting your training in? I am finding it increasingly hard to get to training.

    An example of my day is;

    07:00 - Work

    16:30 / 17:00 - Collect kids

    17:00 - 19:00 - Dinner, homework and playtime with the kids

    19:00 - 20:30 - It’s either tidy up, put on washing, put washing away or get kids to bed. This alternates between myself and herself.

    20:30 - Time with my girlfriend.

    22:00 - Bed.

    The only time I could get out to the gym would from 20:30 - 22:00 but very few gyms work until that time or have classes around those times. Any advice? Am I missing a trick?

    Or do I have to literally be a bit selfish and just make time?

    Can you lift or go training at lunchtime?

    If you had a home gym set-up, would you train at 6am or 10pm-11pm?

    Can you negotiate with your partner for even one session a week where you head off during family time? Offer her the same. I am happy to see her heading off and doing her own thing, as she probably puts more time in at home and with the kids than I do anyway (work related reasons).

    The reality is that before children, you can train 5-7 days a week… With 1 child you can do a surprising amount… With 2… With 3… It gets impossible once their sports and activities start kicking in.

    I think when they fly the nest is when you get all "your" leisure time back, and I expect I'll be sorry about it, when that finally happens…
