Options changing from a Leaf

Hi

Currently own a 40kw Nissan Leaf.

My commute may be changing in which I will have a daily commute of 270km return.

There will be a destination charger as an option. 35km secondary road and 100km motorway. Would like to do 120km speed on motorway.

Budget approx 15k with leaf as trade in.

Thinking kia ev6 may be best option, not a fan of tesla.

Commute wud be 4 days a week.

Total wud be just over 1k km a week.

It'd be a bit of a stretch to get an EV6 for 15k plus the Leaf so. Cheapest EV6 on sale I've seen is about 28k dealer sale. Best price on DD for your Leaf would be ~14k. Can't see that price being available on a trade in, if you can even get a trade in.

Maybe you might be able to stretch the budget to a new EV3, there is 0% finance on that

An ID4 with a big battery might be easier got than a 77kWh ID3. More choice within budget in terms of finding someone to trade on the Leaf ?

I'd personally stay away from Renault. I've never owned an ICE one with reliable electronics, not sure trusting the same electronics for the drivetrain and battery would be wise

If you are happy with the leaf there's still a few new ones kicking around for the €20k mark

@OP Ignore this posters post. It's just scare mongering over nothing.

Anyone I have seen in here with there Megane E-Tech are very happy with it. Have not seen anyone complain about it. Nor heard any horror stories in the media about them which is a lot more than can be said for the software on the early VW ID3 and Teslas.

I have been vaguely keeping an eye on that one myself, it was priced at 27000 a week ago so they just dropped the price.

The UK Forums post about the various problems more so than boards as only 824 of them have been sold in Ireland throughout 2023 and 2024. Read InsideEV's, meganeelectricforums or Speak EV as a start.

Anybody who argues against Renaults legacy electric issues have their head in the sand, it was the same for Peugeot.

Just for reference re selling/trading the Leaf.

There is a sh1t tonne of Leafs for sale and even some I would have considered good value are not selling. You don't say what variant, or mileage, but 2019 models are starting for an asking of 9k now. 10k will buy a decent one with under 100k klms if ready and have a little patience.

Nissan still have some of those new Leafs for 21k OTR afaik. 0% finance makes that tempting enough to not consider a new shape Leaf. If they were available when I was looking last April, I would have dived on that deal and wouldn't have even looked at used models. I bought my 2018 N-Connecta for a little over 9k with well under 100k on the clock.

Since anecdotes are taking the place of data, I'll add that I've never had any trouble with Renaults I've owned, last one was a Megane. Just been talking to a friend of mine who'd had Renaults going back decades (changes every four years) and she's never had a problem bar a recall on an electric window winder in a Megane she had. Getting a new Megane e-Tech in a couple of months.

Number of factors I think. Bad reputation for batteries, relatively small battery sizes (40kWh would be the most plentiful newer models) and a good deal more competition in the second hand market now with Hyundai, Kia etc. all with bigger batteries and greater range.

Ambitious asking prices at a time when Nissan selling brand new ones for close to €20K. Bad press from Nissan dodging out of battery warranty claims. Chademo DC changing becoming obsolete.

..but I guess unless you are holding for 10+ years it's possibly means no real trade in/resale value
