Strange wire - what is it for.

I was looking at a wire hanging out of a wall recently. It is shoulder height in a hallway. Located perhaps where you would expect an alarm keypad to be. I am a bit puzzled though about its purpose.

Has anyone any suggestions? It appears to have an unusual amount of cores.

Possibly, but I have done electronic engineering with networking and have never seen a profile like that.

Its probably 5 or 6 pair cable for the alarm panel. Looks like more than 4 anyway!

What are the colourings? Hard to tell from the photo but I seem to be able to see a solid-green and a light green, then solid brown and light brown, and the same for orange… Is it 10-core?

Im not sure. It is in a house I was in recently. There appears to be no alarm system there. It appears to have a SIRO BB box under the stairs. This wire is hanging out in the hallway at shoulder height. I just dont recognise the profile.

Probably an interphone/visiophone cable, maybe with the option to remotely open a door or gate, given the 5 pairs and the location.
