Actual HLI calculation

    As you know the SEAI use the theoretical HLI to decide whether a house is hp ready and to grant aid or not the installation of the hp.

    This is all fine and dandy on paper but I feel this will come back to bite as this is not, imo, what the BER/DEAP process for existing houses was designed to do.

    As most existing houses already have a gas or oil central heating system which is generally capable of heating the house, does anybody know why the SEAI don't use real actual individual consumption data to calculate a much more accurate HLI.

    For example, take a house heated by gas for ease of explanation. Over a period of time (ideally during a cold spell) , say 24 or 48 hours, note gas consumption at the meter, have the heating on for the duration and monitor internal & external temperatures using simple data loggers and measure the floor area. The actual HLI for the house can then be calculated with the only assumption made being the gas heating system efficiency (boiler & distribution system).

    Surely, this is a much more accurate and robust method of calculating a true HLI before making the decision on the hp than the current 'computer says NO' method.
