Best and cheapest option for recording RTE channels.

My mate and his wife (both pensioners) are finally leaving Sky and want to use some cheap(ish) method of recording a couple of programmes on RTE 1. They have a working rooftop aerial which picks up both Saorview and Freeview channels. He's not that fussed about specific programmes but she has 3 programme all on RTE 1 that she currently records and then watches via Sky Q.

But with leaving Sky they need an alternative for either recording or watching on catchup. A Firestick was suggested but I think that might be too complicated for them. I read elsewhere that the RTE player app is very difficult to install and work on a firestick. I was thinking of something along the lines of this type of box combined with a USB stick.

Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.
