New insulation - Pay deposit before contract is issued?

I recently bought a house. I am in the process of looking for a company to install new dry-lining insulation. My preferred company has sent me an email laying out what they would do as well as the price (of about 7500 euros). They are asking for a deposit now, before even mentioning a formal contract.

Is it normal to send a deposit before signing a contract? I'm generally cautious, but I don't know what's normal and what isn't.
