Oak dimensioning query

Hi there, I want to buy some white oak to steam bend and the example i am working off had boat ribs that were 1 1/4 inches wide and 11cm in thickness and 58 inches long.

My question being is that the hardware stores appear to be selling either 6x1(probably be just under the inch) or 6x2 (probably end up being 1.6") for example, would I have to go for the 6x2 in this case and plane down to the 1 1/4 width or is there a way I could make do with the 6x1?

Will be stripping down to size with a skill saw.

What finished size material do you need. You have posted a mixture of sizes in both metric and imperial thats not very clear, so what do you need. Presumably at this stage you are sorted.
