Hi everyone, I will be submitting my first firearms licence application over the next week or two in Wexford for a new 17HMR rifle. I’ve no prior convictions and have never been in any trouble. I also have written permission from 2 local farmers as recommended by my local dealer. Firstly, what would be the chances of obtaining the licence in wexford and what is the CPO or super like to deal with and also would anyone have a rough idea of how long applications usually take in Wexford ? Thanks In advance !

As long as you have a proper reason for owning a firearm and you tick all the boxes regarding storage requirements and competency courses, there's no reason for them to refuse the licence. Time frame i can't comment on.

that’s great, thanks very much. I have a safe bought and fitted and I’m now just awaiting a date for a competency course. I will be mainly using it for hunting small game and I have written permission and letters from both landowners stating that they need me to use a silencer when shooting on their land as to not startle in calf cows and to not frighten racehorses. So fingers crossed. Thanks again !

sounds like you'll have all the boxes ticked.

Sounds like you've got the right approach, and are going about it all the right way - well done!

Without suggesting that you be cocky, there's nothing wrong with expecting to get your application approved, given you are doing everything correctly, and have a good reason for making the application.

    Thanks,

    G.
