SPD Platform Pedal - Recommendations

I've been using Shimano M520's for years, but I'm interested in trying out an SPD pedal with a platform for non clipping in purposes. Ideally, they'd be as bombproof as the 520's they would replace. Any suggestions or recommendations out there?

They work fine but in practice I always used to just swap them back out for the dual sided spd's when I was going mountain biking - as swapping pedals is so quick - so technically I could have just made do with normal flats

Yeah, I'd been wondering if I'd just be better buying a pair or platforms that I can swap out when I want

This is what I would recommend, I had SPD platforms and they just never achieve either quite as good as either a dedicated platform or a dedicated SPD. A pair of decent platforms with grip, would be the best IMO as you then might not even change them out that much as you would think as my experience is that in many, not all, scenarios they are equivalent.

i have a pretty much unused pair of pedals, i think the same model as gn3dr mentioned above, which i've not used in a couple of years. lemme know if you want me to name a price.

I've platform pedals on a few other bikes, and I like them, so I might just buy another set and swap them as needed

I got a set of SPD/flat Boardman pedals in Halfords a couple of years ago for somewhere in the €40 range and I can't fault them really - only slight gripe might be the platform being a bit small if wearing chunky shoes but that's a tradeoff. Unfortunately I don't see them listed online or I'd add a link so they might be discontinued. I had a pair of pedals similar to those MB was offering for years (BBB not Shimano) and again they always worked well.

XT trekking pedals, £80 or so.

The early versions had a flat, flat pedal and the later version has pins on the flat side for extra grip.

They always, always hang at the same angle so you can always pick flat or clipless side right first time.

And weigh about 700 boatloads less than those M324's up there. Same base components as the M520, plus reflectors so are road legal.

I hit 21k km on a set on my fast commuter before being relegated to my slow commuter (pub bike).
