Stanley Rante Whistling

I have a Stanley range cooker that powers our rads and hot water (we can also cook on it but we don’t use it for that).

For a couple of days, I’ve noticed that it is making a whistling sound (almost like a kettle). This happens when it “rests” (not sure about the terminology but when it’s on, it makes a lot of noise for a while, and then rests again).

I also notice that this active-idle sequence is very frequent. The range is only idle for a minute, before starting again.

I’m going to call someone to take a look but wondering if people here have had a similar situation and whether I can fix it myself? (It is air? Is it a bad thermostat causing the water to boil too much?).

    thanks
