Saorview DTV scan not identifying any channels on new LG tv

I bought an LG 50” UR780 yesterday, and I can’t get it to auto scan any Saorview channels on the DTV tuner. It’s tuning to satellite channels fine on the Freesat tuner. The Saorvew antenna connection is working fine on the box I’m looking to replace. I’ve reset and tried again both with the location as Ireland and as the UK but no joy. When I go to investigate manual tuning it’s showing 0% signal. Could it be an issue with the tuner? Any thoughts?

0% signal on the TV on the two Saorview channels from your local transmitter? What sort of aerial have you got?

When doing the auto scan have you clicked on antenna as well as satellite.I have an LG as well.It searches antenna first then satellite channels

I’ve an external aerial that’s been working fine (and still is) on another tv and a combo box. Transmitter is Ballina, Tipp.

Yes, I’ve done both (together and separately) but the DTT is still not detecting any channels.

The question is how is the aerial split between TV points?

Two receivers working off the same aerial and one not would indicate a fault between the TV point and point where the signal is split

I checked that - I’ve my old tv still alongside the new one, and when I switch it into the old one the reception is perfect.

When you have done the auto scan, you then have to go into settings, all settings, programmes, programme manager, edit all programmes, in antenna select DTV and highlight RTE1, then exit menu, press 1 for 3-5 secs and RTE1 will be on the quick access. Repeat and select satellite and select BBC1, exit and press 2 for 3-5 secs and BBC1 will be on quick access 2.

thanks, but the prob is that the auto scan isn’t finding any channels.

At this point I'd suggest a factory reset and start again

If it,s tuning the freesat channels then you must have set the location as UK. Are you sure your saorview channels arent being stored up in the 800,s.

Sorry, I see you have already tried both locations with no joy.

What signal strenght/quality readings? Ballina is low power just 100 watts. A perfect picture can be from a weak signal. There is a Signal Test menu on the LG under Programme Tuning, which will probably prove again that you have 0%. But try it anyway.

And what is the signal strenght/quality readings on the good setup ?

according to my H7S, SNR is 90%, AGC is 99%, BER is 0 (whatever that means)!

Well it sounds like the tuner in the LG is kaput.

I assume you are unplugging from the box and using the same connector into the TV?

If not do that ensuring any splitters are removed.

Then if you still cannot tune the DTV channels on the LG, return the aerial connector to the box and see that it still gets TV channels.

    Assuming it does, phone LG.

They are less than perfect, but will provide diagnostic help and point out if it needs returning.

Not a fun thing to hear when you have spent half a day installing the thing :-(

I’ve been on to LG support, they recommend return to retailer. Thanks for your assistance.

Another thing to check is if the H7S is providing power on the aerial lead for an amplifier. If it's capable of this there will be a menu setting called 'antenna power' or similar.
