    Hi all,

Long time HTPC tinkerer here but last few years haven't used Kodi or similar apps much so not really up to date.

I've a new Google TV equipped TV which runs Netflix, Plex and YouTube etc flawlessly.

I've a 1TB of ripped DVD's (Movies and TV Series) which I've connected to the TV directly via USB. It is a mixture of MP4 / MKV and AVI files all of which play fine on the built in "Media Player" app but none of them will play in VLC or Kodi which I'd like to use rather than the built in app as it's a bit like using File Explorer to watch content whereas VLC and Kodi provide a better user experience in terms of showing thumnails and keeping track of what episodes have been watched etc.

Both VLC and Kodi see the folders which each movie or TV Episode is in but neither see any of the video files and I've tweaked the settings in each without success.

Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

Alternatively, does anyone have a suggestion for a Google TV app which will present the content on the connected HDD in a Plex like fashion where each Movie or TV series is visually presented a la Netflix and keeps tabs on watched progress etc?

    Thanks for reading.
