Hi all, I got a pro-ject Carbon Evo 2 for Christmas.

Some lps play fine but some have a lot of sibilance.

Its really harsh on hi hat cymbals and vocals with words that have an S in them.

It's ruining the whole experience for me.

My old Audio Technica doesn't do it.

Ive balanced the tone arm, tracking force and anti skate to the correct specs.

Ive leveled it with a spirit level and I've checked the cartridge alignment.

Is there anything else I can try without throwing more money at it and hoping for the best?

I really want to like it but as it stands I think it'll have to go back.

Two things I can think of without actually hearing it.

    1. A build up of static. Can happen if it's a dry room/house but all some new records can come out of the sleeves with built up static.
    2. EQ needs adjustment. Try adjusting the EQ on your amp to compensate. Turn down the higher frequencies.
