Advice for dealing with Currys

Bought a laptop for my daughter on 1st of December from Currys (click and collect). It was a Christmas gift, so we opened the box today. Turned out it's not the laptop I ordered and paid for. I ordered core i5, the one we got is i3. I'm going to take the laptop to Currys tomorrow. Will they replace it, if the box is opened (no insurance)? Thanks for any advice.

Depends on what the email and receipt say

Presumably the receipt and payment is for i5 so they will have to replace

Goods not as described. A pretty open and shut case I would have thought.

Best not to go in with all guns blazing (although it is disappointing as a Christmas present). They really don't have a leg to stand on so being polite but firm is the best response.

If the worst comes to the worst, go to then the small claims court is your answer. My friends mum took them on for a €3k tv during Covid. She had to get electronic engineers cert. The lawyer that tried to resolve it was from the UK and had no knowledge of the small claims court or was for a poxy job too small. The store manager must have been told not to pay out and the solicitor was called to late and had ignored the court correspondance. Hence the judge ordered Currys to replace the TV for a similar price. Took about a year I think.

Land in the store tomorrow when they're busy with the sale and they might be keen to get rid of you promptly.

Quite often these British chains try and push rules set by their UK head office and are unaware of Irish consumer laws. I'd stand up to any attempts to get you to contact a UK number.
