Perhaps a silly question, but just checking to be sure.

Is the circled item the neutral?

No! That's the variable output from a dimmer. There is no neutral in that photo as all wires are brown.

    is it a two way?

    Ah!

    Damnit!

    That's what i suspected.

The smart dimmer switch I got requires a neutral. That's going back to Amazon.

Should have opened the light switch first before purchasing.

    Ms

The L2 terminal should be for your live but it looks like someone put their switch wire in that and looped the live in the other terminal. Is there more cables in the switch or is that it?

    Peace and long life.
