Most audio not working on Mini Projector 18000 Lumen - advice please!

Hi ,i bought a portable projector as a Christmas present so bit of a panic now. So if i link it up to my laptop through HDMI it plays the sound perfectly for a movie but when i put the same movie on a hard drive or memory stick and plug that in to the projector 'Unsupported Audio' comes up on the screen.
