'new rule ' in CA?

I have a query on what appears to be new rules, on the Vatnik thread, a mod posted this

We would like to stress that Boards is a discussion site and that you may read opinions you disagree with or find offensive. We will therefore not attempt to censor discussion unless it is against Boards Terms of Use or the forum charter. It is up to users to refute posts they disagree with, or that they think are factually incorrect.

    They then stated this

We are not mind readers, we cannot tell if someone is willingly posting something they know to be false, or whether they genuinely believe what they're posting.

The lighter touch moderation reflects that, it is now up to posters to refute claims on thread or to ignore posts.

It has previously been stated that mods are not fact checkers, and if we correct information on one side of an argument we will look biased.

Is this now the rule? A poster must challenge something they believe to be false, but mods will not be involved?

Moved to Helpdesk: Feedback is for general sitewide feedback. Helpdesk is for issues with specific forums.

What do you want moderators to do suvigirl?

If you think a poster posts something that's not true then disagree with them on thread. Moderators are not going to fact check any posts. A poster can believe whatever they like. It might be false but they are still entitled to believe it. If you think they are glaringly wrong and have the information to dispute it then post it.

Moderators are not going to fight your battles for you.

Posters are asked to engage in civil discussion without name calling or ridicule. Not everyone is going to think the same or hold the same beliefs. Report a post if you think it breaches any of the site or forum rules. The moderators will make the call on whether or not it is actionable.

    Thread locked.

Do you really think we should research subjects to verify if something someone posts is accurate or not?

If posters are posting false commentary to troll we can act. That is then a judgement call we make. Report posts you think are trolling setting out why and we will take a look. We may though take a differing view from the reporter, or indeed agree and act accordingly

What the rule outlined above indicates is we will not get involvevd in "grey" areas. Posters are perfectly capable of posting stuff to counter points made, and indeed highlight inaccuracies posted.
