Help me build a gaming PC in 2025 to beat an Xbox

    Hey all,

I have an Xbox series X connected to a Samsung QN90B QLED 43" TV. The TV supports up to 144Hz at 4K. My intention for 2025 is to build myself my first gaming PC. The goal is to perform, at a minimum, as well as the series X on like for like games, and ideally better.

My target games are the likes of FPS games such as COD and 3rd person games like RDR2, cyberpunk, etc. Not a competitive gamer, so that's not a concern at all. Because it'll be connected to my TV, it'd be handy too to double duty for the likes of streaming services/etc, but I think that just means having a handy wireless keyboard/mouse, so probably doesn't actually affect any decisions.

Budget wise - I don't know yet. I'm not in any rush, and don't mind picking bits up over a period of time to avail of sales/discounts/etc.

    Any suggestions, advice or pointers?

    Generally speaking, you want

CPU: Ryzen 5600/7600 or 5700X3D/7700. 9800X3D if you want the absolute best CPU, has zero availability at the moment

    GPU: Wait until January 2025.

Waiting until January to get a 5000 series? Or to get a 4000 series on discount? (do they tend to come down in price when new series is launched?)

Likely better off getting Nvidia RTX 5000; and I can't say I've seen good discounts on 4000's here.

Intel has just released some very well reviewed budget B580 GPUs..

GPU war time ? And a much better space now for PC gaming ?

It's a better time for entry-level (decent) GPUs but I'm waiting to see if B570 is good, too - that might be the real value hero.

I'm evening wondering if the 5060 8GB model becomes a paper launch with a 12GB model announced in January.
