Leaving Sky Stream

Sky Stream is just too expensive when the intro offers expire and you are left paying over €150 a month, so I am looking for alternatives.

The only ones I can see are

    EirTV

    Broadband and TV: €50
    Activation Fee: €30
    Extra Box: €10

    Vodafone

    Broadband and TV: €45
Not sure about multiroom or if there an activation fee

    VirginTV

    Broadband and TV: €50
    Extra box €7.50
    Activation fee: €50

I can get my Sky Sports/TNT sports from the Now TV app, as my TV's are new enough and have the apps already installed.

What is important to me are, recording things in RTE and BBC, and ad skipping. Having content in HD as well, would be nice.

I hear EirTV is a step ahead most here?

PS: I opened this thread as the Sky Stream thread appears broken for me.

There is no additional sub for multiroom with Eir TV. You can use any existing Apple TV device in the home. I have four, and it has never been an issue.

You can't "record" BBC on any of these streaming services due to rights issues. With Sky, there are some exceptions allowed - but it's nowhere near the same as recording yourself freely.

If recording RTE and BBC is critical, your options are Saorview & Freesat (with Now for sports) or Sky Q. I am not sure you would be treated as a new customer for Sky Q if you already have Stream though, and they might not even want to install it for you.

Yea, I know the 'recording' is not really a recording, its more of a save of a bookmark and the content is stream from the provider.

I hear EirTV is good at this especially with the BBC as currently the recording feature for BBC is much on Sky Stream.

Also does EirTV allow to skip adds?

Also, not interested in a satellite option, streaming only.

Eir had excellent BBC recording capability until recently - proving that it was technically possible - but they were forced to stop it, like the others. RTE never allowed recording on streaming devices, forcing you to use the RTE Player. The Apple TV box used by Eir is still the best of the pack in terms of overall streaming capability, player apps etc. It does support BBC iPlayer - but not (officially) outside of UK. The days of satellite are numbered, so everyone will be forced onto the streaming services before long.

FWIW for anyone who has Stream but would prefer satellite - Sky will install Q for you if you say you're not happy with the unreliability of Stream and you're cancelling - we switched last month to a new install of SkyQ and I insisted on a new customer-like deal - otherwise was happy to go Saorview/Freesat route

Anything is technically possible, over in the UK the "TV Box Pro" is a freeview and IPTV box offered by EE and BT which has a 1TB hard drive and can record all the TV channels without any restriction to said hard drive.

The first operator to offer it here moves me from sky q
