Still no power. Won't be repaired until Sunday at latest.

So, I live near Boyle. Just got a text to say ESB won't be fixing it until Sunday.

Anyone else in the same boat?

That will be 8 days in a cold, dark house with a special needs child.

To say I'm furious is an understatement. I've lived in warzones with a better infrastructure than this. It appears rural Ireland is last on their priorities.

They know how many people have lost power per downed line and the fewer the number of households that are affected, the lower the priority that repair gets. They have brought in repair crews from France so it's not like they're treating this as business as usual.

I sympathise with your situation but if you choose to live in rural Ireland, losing your connection to the grid because of storm damage goes with the package.

Are you registered as a vulnerable customer? They have a policy that tries to prioritise getting power back to households who are particularly dependant on it. In my experience with an elderly relative it did seem to make a difference.

that's a bit unfair. People no longer "choose" where to live. They live where they can get a house! Maybe that's with elderly parents or relatives, maybe its a camper van, or a shed. My daughter lives in a camper van in Kerry despite having a degree and a good job as she can't afford to rent anywhere as a single person.

I know there are teams in from Northern Ireland and France but 8 days in a cold, dark house at this time of the year with a special needs child is a lot to endure. It won't get the power back on but as a fellow human it wouldn't hurt to show some level of empathy!

I find empathy develops with age and experience. I wouldn't be so hard on him/her, life soon sorts the seed from the chaff.

Anyway, the power arrived back today, the young fellow and animals in the sheds are slightly happier. Thank you!
