Out of the box I have no problem connecting new socket/switch to my wifi and controlling it with Alexa. Problem is I have two switches that are 3 or 4 years old and have new router that I cant get them to connect to. I have no idea what the make/model is or what is app I used way back to help connect them. Is there any tried and tested way that works with most switches of different brands to get them connected? Thanks

If they are several years old, chances are that they will be using proprietary protocols (almost certainly for the setup) so you will need to use the app supplied by the same manufacturer. Alexa or SmartThings probably won't talk to them.

How can you not tell the make and model of the switches?

Switches are just plain white panels, dont see any manufacturers markings on them

Have you tried the Smart Life app? A lot of different brands seem to use that one.

Try holding down the button on the switches while they are plugged in to see of they start flashing, if they do they might show up in that app.
