Dell Inpsiron laptop LCD smashed. Won't stay on when plugged into external monitor - any ways around

So this is really annoying - I'm replacing an LCD screen and updating the hard drive to SSD for a friend - the screen is cracked beyond usability, so I've removed it. On booting the laptop it displays on the monitor fine for a short while - all the time the light flashes orange twice then white seven times (2,7) which I discovered means LCD Screen problem / failure.

So after doing that a few times, the laptop shuts off.

Is there a way around this? Means I can't even use the laptop to restore onto a new SSD while I await delivery of replacement screen.

So I'm trying to use the laptop as normal without a  screen while connected to a monitor.

As above, this does work, but the laptop shuts itself off after a short while. Feels like a deliberate move by Dell to push people to buy new laptops rather than easily fix them….

Meant to reply back to this - I didn't find a way around the problem but ordered and fitted the new screen and all is good.

    Back with its' owner :-)
