Front door draught on bottom - advice please

Hi guys, moved into a second hand home that's 7 or 8 years old. We want to replace front door but it's not financially possible at the moment. Looks very poor for only 7 years old. Whole thing needs a clean I know, but just looking for some advice please before I start to deal with it.

A good bit of Air is leaking in particularly at bottom right as you walk out. I looked today and can see the door is water damaged and the rubber is falling off at the bottom.

Just wondering if the only thing I can do is to pull the rubber off the bottom and put a new strip on? It's hard to get at. Not sure if there is a particular shape I need to ask for?

I have attached a photo of the metal threshold below also. I am just wondering if the primary seal to stop a draught is just when the damaged rubber strip marked 'A' in the attached photo compresses up against the metal part labelled 'B'. Also was thinking if it might be better to put a strip of rubber on the metal part labelled B as opposed to replacing the rubber on the bottom of the door?

    Someone suggested buying this:

But I don't think I need that with this door and threshold do I? Pretty clueless with this, I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Hi, that's tricky alright. No water intrusion issues there or is it just the air seal gone?

I'd probably clean that seal off well and apply some of the cheap foam seals from a DIY shop over the top of the existing seal, you can get them in 2 or 4mm depths. Go for a 2mm one. Even though it's appealing to do, don't apply the seal to the threshold as it won't stick.

That should get you at least a year down the road. 👍️

Thanks for taking the time. I found some of the foam in the shed. Have cleaned it all down and I put some over the existing one as you suggested. At least it's clean now if anything 🤣. Fingers cross it will do the job cheers

I got inventive one day on an old wooden door that had similar issues and also a gap between itself and the threshold due to an unlevel floor.

My cunning plan involved using a liberal amount of silicone around the entire frame where the door meets the frame, then cover the silicone with clingfilm and close the door.

A few hours later, open the door, remove the clingfilm and tidy up any silicone that has gone somewhere unwanted and in theory you are left with a perfect seal between door and surround.

For me it made a significant difference to the wind getting in.
