Pain after temporary crown

Hi, had quite a bit of decay removed from tooth last Thursday and a partial temporary crown placed. Need to go back in one week for the permanent partial crown. Jaw was pretty sore for 2 days but now it seems to be pain in the tooth. It's more or less a constant ache and ibuprofen helps only slightly. Should i be worried that there is an infection/nerve damage? I hope it settles down in next few days.

It sounds like pulpitis which is fairly common after extensive dental work and where the tooth's nerve becomes inflamed. It should start to get better about 2 weeks or so after the work as everything settles down.

Try and avoid hot/cold foods as that can exacerbate the sensitivity.

One thing to keep an eye out for is irreversible pulpitis which may require root canal treatment. I'd speak to your dentist at the time you're getting the permanent crown put in place if the pain is still present.

Thank you, it's day 5 now and still pretty painful. I guess will just have to hope it calms down over next few days. I'm taking ibuprofen to try ease the ache.
