Terry Griffiths has died aged 77. Just as the UK championship ends. Terry was 1979 World Champion and 1982 UK Champion. Also winner of the Masters in 1980.

He was also a top class coach until recent years.

He had been ill for a while with dementia.

Just read it on RTE. what a legend. One of my lasting memories of Terry was when he was down on a shot in Baulk end of the table about to take his shot and a styrofoam globe fell off its stand behind him. He was so annoyed, he kicked and left a massive dent in it. Crowd and referee thought it was hilarious. Terry was not impressed. I think it was the world championships. Probably 90s.

Ya, it would have been the World Championships. You've reminded me of those globes. I can't remember when they stopped that. They went right through the 90's at least. RIP Terry.

Terry must have come around and eventually found the funny side of it/the globe. You can see the kick mark. 😂

That was the 1988 World final when he lost easily to Davis.

Great documentary here on Welsh snooker filmed in 1982

Features - Terry Griffiths, Ray Reardon, Doug Mountjoy and Cliff Wilson

They are all in the big snooker hall in the sky now.

Terry's personality was very similar to Mark Williams. Quiet unassuming, and likeable but a steely determination on the table. Great match player. There definitely must be something in the air in Wales.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Remember his iconic line upon reaching the 1979 World Final….

"I'm in the final now, you know!"

Steve Davis and Friends (around 2000) Featuring Terry Griffiths.

I found it a bit jarring at how sharp Griffiths memory was in this interview. Remembering all sorts of little details, considering how he ended up.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.
