    About Boards.ie

    What is Boards.ie?

Boards.ie is one of Ireland’s longest running discussion forums. The first post on the site that would end up being called Boards.ie was made in Feb 1998. Boards has a multitude of topic-driven forums that cover all areas of Irish life.

    History

Boards.ie originated in 1998 among a group of college students so that they could chat about the game they were playing, Quake. They used it for this purpose, adding more friends as their interest in the game grew until they found themselves talking about things other than Quake. At this point new areas (forums) began to be added to talk about work, sports, politics, tech, etc.

Currently Boards has almost 2,000 forums, they are a mix of private and public, old and new.

    Usergroups

The site is looked after by a large team of moderators. These are all volunteers who look after a forum or multiple forums that they have a specific interest in. Usually they are a regular poster in a forum who is asked if they would be interested in volunteering to mod. The main user groups on the site are:

    • Registered users
    • Moderators (oversee a forum(s) ensuring that people remain civil and follow site guidelines and rules)
    • Category moderators (oversee a group of forums and their moderators, also look after disputes between users and mods)
    • Administrators (oversee mods & category mods and the day-to-day running of the site, they have the power to site ban a user)
    • Staff (oversee all of the above plus tech issues, issues with business clients and individual user issues, liaise between tech staff and users)

We have divided topics into 15 categories on the site plus our Talk To business forums and Regional forums (covering each geographical area in Ireland).
